Cuban Hamburgers (fritas)

Total Time: 25 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup milk (i use skim with good results)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • salt and pepper
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • shoestring potatoes (papitas fritas)

Recipe

  • 1 in a small bowl, combine milk and breadcrumbs. let sit for a moment or two for the crumbs to absorb the milk.
  • 2 in a larger bowl, mix together the beef, egg, paprika, onion, garlic, lime juice, ketchup and the bread crumb/milk mixture.
  • 3 make sure it is well combined and then cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to let the flavors come together. i left it for about 24 hours with good results.
  • 4 form into patties and either fry in a little olive oil or grill over hot coals (they will stick to your grill so oil well). they should be cooked through, not rare (as i usually like it). we grilled them (1/2 lb burgers) for about 5-6 minutes per side.
  • 5 serve them on buns and top with the shoestring potatoes if desired along with a little more ketchup.
