Cuban Hamburgers (fritas)
Total Time: 25 mins
Preparation Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 10 mins
Ingredients
- Servings: 6
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/4 cup milk (i use skim with good results)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 small onion, minced
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- salt and pepper
- 6 hamburger buns
- shoestring potatoes (papitas fritas)
Recipe
- 1 in a small bowl, combine milk and breadcrumbs. let sit for a moment or two for the crumbs to absorb the milk.
- 2 in a larger bowl, mix together the beef, egg, paprika, onion, garlic, lime juice, ketchup and the bread crumb/milk mixture.
- 3 make sure it is well combined and then cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to let the flavors come together. i left it for about 24 hours with good results.
- 4 form into patties and either fry in a little olive oil or grill over hot coals (they will stick to your grill so oil well). they should be cooked through, not rare (as i usually like it). we grilled them (1/2 lb burgers) for about 5-6 minutes per side.
- 5 serve them on buns and top with the shoestring potatoes if desired along with a little more ketchup.
