Family-sized Hamburger

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 lb cheese, sliced
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup pickle, sliced
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 large round loaf italian bread, sliced in half

Recipe

  • 1 heat grill or oven broiler.
  • 2 in a large bowl, mix together ground beef, mustard, worcestershire sauce and salt & pepper. shape the meat into two patties - one 11 inches, the other 9 inches.
  • 3 place the larger patty on a foil lined baking sheet. layer on half of the cheese, the tomatoes, onion, and pickles; then add remaining cheese, leaving a 2 inch margin around the edge. top with the 9 inch patty and pinch together the edges of the two burgers.
  • 4 combine the butter and chili powder and brush all over the burger.
  • 5 slide burger onto grill, or under broiler (about 3 inches from flame or broiler). cook for 6 to 9 minutes on one side. flip burger and brush with butter and chili powder mixture, then cook for another 6 to 9 minutes or until it's done.
  • 6 place the giant burger onto the bottom half of the bread loaf, add the top, and cut into 8 wedges.
