Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

Total Time: 2 hrs 30 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 2 hrs

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tablespoons italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • pepper
  • 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup red wine or 1/2 cup wine
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 carrot, cut to 1/4-inch cubes
  • 1/4 bell pepper, cut to 1/4-inch cubes
  • 1 celery, cut to 1/4-inch cubes
  • 1/2 zucchini or 1/2 squash, cut to 1/4-inch cubes

Recipe

  • 1 heat oil in a large stock pot over medium high heat.
  • 2 add onion, garlic, italian seasoning, red pepper flakes and pepper saute for 4 minutes.
  • 3 add tomato paste and stir for 3 minutes.
  • 4 add all other ingredents except salt.
  • 5 simmer over medium heat for 2 to 3 hours.
  • 6 add salt just before serving.
  • 7 water can be added to thin the sauce.
  • 8 hamburger can be added to the finished sauce (1 1/2 lbs.) if wanted.
